Alphaa vs Semrush: AI Agent vs SEO Suite (2026)
Semrush shows a marketer what AI search says and leaves the fixing to them, while Alphaa checks the same answers for one business and drafts and publishes the fixes itself.

By the Alphaa team — we build an AI agent that checks what ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity say about local businesses, so read this as one side's view. Every Semrush figure below was read from Semrush's own pricing and help pages on 6 October 2026, and prices change.
Short answer: Semrush is a research and reporting suite for marketers that now tracks how your brand appears in AI search, from $139 a month. Alphaa is an AI agent for one business that checks the same AI answers weekly and then writes and publishes the fixes with your approval, from $99 a month. Pick Semrush if someone on your team will act on reports; pick Alphaa if nobody will.
The two products are not really substitutes, which is why the comparison is worth making carefully. One is a toolbox built for people whose job is marketing. The other is a worker built for people whose job is running a business. This page lays out what each does, what each costs on its own public pages, which AI engines each covers, and the one question that decides it: who does the work after the dashboard loads.
What does Semrush actually do in 2026?
Semrush is an all-in-one SEO and marketing platform that, as of October 2026, sells its plans as "SEO + AI Search" and includes AI visibility tracking at every tier. The Semrush knowledge base lists the AI visibility features: a Visibility Overview with an AI visibility score, Brand Performance (how AI platforms describe you and what they cite), Competitor Research, Prompt Research, Position Tracking that includes AI results, an AI Traffic Dashboard, an AI-Readiness Site Audit and a Content Toolkit that scores a draft against factors Semrush associates with higher citation rates.
Around that sit the things Semrush has always been known for: keyword research, backlink analysis, technical site audits, rank tracking and competitor intelligence across millions of domains. If you run content programmes for several sites or report to clients, that depth is the product. The AI features are an extension of the same workflow, not a separate way of working.
What Semrush does not do is publish. The Content Toolkit, in Semrush's own words, helps you improve "before you publish". Someone on your side still writes the page, fixes the schema, updates the Google Business Profile and uploads the change. For a marketing team that is the job. For an owner it is the part that never happens.
What does Alphaa actually do?
Alphaa is an AI agent that asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity a real customer question about your business every week, records who they recommend instead, runs a 23-point check on what those engines can read on your website, and then drafts the fixes. You approve each public change with one tap, and Alphaa publishes it: through its WordPress plugin, its Shopify and Webflow apps, or by emailing the exact change to your web person. On the Full Service plan a person on Alphaa's team does the setup and publishing for you.
The fixes are the ordinary ones that decide AI recommendations: structured business facts in the HTML, service pages that answer the questions customers ask an assistant, FAQ content, reviews readable as text, consistent details across your listings, and a Google Business Profile that is kept active. There is no keyword database, no backlink index and no multi-client reporting, because Alphaa is built for one business at a time. See how to get recommended by ChatGPT for the mechanism it works on.
How much do Alphaa and Semrush cost?
Semrush starts at $139 a month billed monthly and Alphaa starts at $99 a month, but the plans are shaped so differently that the entry prices mislead. Here is what each company publishes, as of 6 October 2026.
| Plan | Published price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Semrush SEO | $139/mo monthly, $117.33/mo billed annually | 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, AI search tracking |
| Semrush Starter | $199/mo monthly, $165.17/mo billed annually | 5 websites, 500 keywords, 50 AI prompts tracked daily |
| Semrush Pro+ | $299/mo monthly, $248.17/mo billed annually | 15 websites, 1,500 keywords, 100 AI prompts daily |
| Semrush Advanced | $549/mo monthly, $455.67/mo billed annually | 40 websites, 5,000 keywords, 200 AI prompts daily |
| Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit (standalone) | $99/mo per domain, billed annually | 1 domain, 25 custom prompts tracked daily, AI readiness audit |
| Alphaa Starter | $99/mo, month to month | 1 business: weekly checks on 4 engines, 23-point site check, drafted fixes you approve |
| Alphaa Pro | $199/mo, month to month | Multiple locations, competitor comparison, auto-publish for blog posts |
| Alphaa Full Service | $299/mo, month to month | Everything in Pro, plus a person does the setup and publishing |
Two details matter. Semrush's $99 AI Visibility Toolkit is billed annually, so the real commitment is $1,188 up front for one domain, and it is a measurement product with no publishing. Semrush's core plans count websites and keywords because they are built for people managing several properties; a single-location business will use a fraction of the allowance. Alphaa's plans count businesses, and the price includes the labour. Read the full pricing pages at Semrush and Alphaa before deciding; both change.
Which AI engines does each one cover?
Semrush covers Google's AI surfaces and Alphaa covers Claude, and the overlap is ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Semrush's AI pricing page names "ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, and Perplexity", and its knowledge base adds Google AI Mode and AI Overviews explicitly. Alphaa asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, and does not track Google AI Overviews or AI Mode.
| Engine | Semrush | Alphaa |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Yes | Yes |
| Gemini | Yes | Yes |
| Perplexity | Yes | Yes |
| Claude | Not listed | Yes |
| Google AI Overviews and AI Mode | Yes | No |
If Google's AI results are your main concern, Semrush has the coverage and Alphaa does not. Note that Google's own generative AI performance report in Search Console now shows impressions for AI Overviews and AI Mode for free, with no query breakdown, so the cheapest way to watch Google is Google. Our comparison of the engines' behaviour for local queries is in ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Perplexity.
How do Semrush and Alphaa measure AI visibility differently?
Semrush tracks a fixed list of prompts every day and scores your share of the answers; Alphaa asks each engine a real customer question every week and records who was named instead of you. Both are legitimate, and they answer different questions. Daily tracking on 25 to 200 prompts gives a marketer a trend line and a competitor share to report on. A weekly check on the question a customer would actually type gives an owner a plain fact: this week ChatGPT and Perplexity named you, Gemini and Claude named two competitors, and here is what those competitors publish that you do not.
Because AI answers are regenerated on every request, neither method produces a number that is exact, and a score from one tool cannot be compared with a score from the other. Treat each as a baseline you move with your own change log beside it. We go into the methods and their limits in how to measure AI visibility and why AI answers change every time.
Who does the work after the report?
With Semrush you do, and with Alphaa the agent does, pending your approval. That is the whole difference, and it is worth being concrete about what "the work" is for a typical local business that an AI assistant currently skips.
- Find out what the engines say. Semrush: set up a project, choose prompts, read the Visibility Overview. Alphaa: the weekly check runs and tells you who was named.
- Diagnose why. Semrush: run the AI-Readiness audit and read the recommendations. Alphaa: the 23-point check lists what the engines could not read on your site.
- Write the fix. Semrush: your writer drafts a page, and the Content Toolkit scores it. Alphaa: the agent drafts the page, the FAQ or the structured data itself.
- Publish it. Semrush: your developer or web person uploads the change. Alphaa: you tap approve and it goes live through the WordPress, Shopify or Webflow integration, or your web person receives the exact change by email.
- Repeat. Semrush: whenever your team has time. Alphaa: every week, with an undo on every change.
Neither tool can edit an AI model, and Google states plainly that no markup or special optimisation buys inclusion in its AI features. Both products improve public signals and wait for the engines to re-read them. The difference is whether that improving happens.
Where is Semrush the better choice?
Semrush is the better choice when you have a marketer, an SEO or an agency who will live in it. Specifically:
- You manage several websites or clients. Semrush's plans are priced for 5 to 40 sites, with shared projects and client reporting.
- You need keyword, backlink and competitor research at depth. Alphaa has none of this and does not plan to.
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode matter to you. Semrush tracks them; Alphaa does not.
- You want prompt-level data. Semrush tracks 50 to 200 named prompts daily on its core plans and offers prompt research across its database.
- Your team already uses it. Adding AI visibility to a tool people already open every day beats introducing a second one.
Where is Alphaa the better choice?
Alphaa is the better choice when you are the owner, there is no marketer, and the goal is simply to be the business an assistant names. Specifically:
- Nobody will act on a report. A dashboard that nobody opens changes nothing; a drafted fix waiting for one tap usually ships.
- You run one business, or a few locations. You pay for the work on your business, not for allowances built for forty sites.
- Claude matters to your customers. Alphaa is the one of the two that checks it.
- You want month to month. Semrush's cheapest AI entry is billed annually; Alphaa has no contract.
- You want a person as the backstop. Full Service at $299 puts a human on the setup and publishing, which no software plan at Semrush includes.

Can you use Semrush and Alphaa together?
Yes, and marketers who look after a local business often do. Semrush stays the research and reporting layer: keyword volumes, backlink gaps, Google AI Overview tracking across the portfolio. Alphaa runs the weekly AI checks and the publishing for the one business that needs its answers fixed. There is no integration between them and none is needed; the overlap is only in the tracking of ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and the two measure differently enough that the numbers should not be compared with each other. If you only want one, decide by who will do the work, then run the free 60-second check to see what the four assistants say about you today.
What else do people ask about Alphaa vs Semrush?
Is Alphaa cheaper than Semrush?
On entry price, yes: Alphaa starts at $99 a month, month to month, while Semrush's cheapest plan is $139 a month billed monthly and its $99 AI Visibility Toolkit is billed annually. The products include very different things, so compare what you would actually use.
Does Semrush track ChatGPT?
Yes. As of October 2026 Semrush's AI pricing page lists mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, with 25 to 200 prompts tracked daily depending on the plan. It reports the visibility; the changes are yours to make.
Does Alphaa track Google AI Overviews?
No. Alphaa asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. For Google's AI surfaces, Search Console's generative AI performance report shows impressions for free, and Semrush tracks them in more detail.
Is Alphaa a Semrush alternative?
For a local business that wants AI visibility done rather than reported, yes. For keyword research, backlink analysis and multi-site audits it is not an alternative at all, because it does not do those things.
Can Alphaa publish to my website?
Yes, once you approve the change. It publishes through its WordPress plugin and its Shopify and Webflow apps, and for any other platform it emails your web person the exact change; Full Service customers have Alphaa's team do it.
Will either tool get my business recommended by AI?
Neither can promise that, because no vendor can edit what an AI model says. Both work on the public signals the engines read; we explain the honest timeline in how long AEO takes.
