By the Alphaa team — we build an AI agent that checks what ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity say about local businesses, so read this as one side's view. Every AthenaHQ figure below was read from AthenaHQ's own pricing, home and integrations pages on 7 October 2026, and prices change.

Short answer: In Alphaa vs AthenaHQ, AthenaHQ is the broader platform: it tracks 11 AI models for marketing teams and costs $295 a month on its Starter plan. Alphaa is narrower and cheaper: an AI agent for one business that checks four assistants weekly and publishes approved fixes, from $99 a month. Choose by who will run it.

The two products overlap more than most comparisons we write. Both describe themselves as agents, both track what AI assistants say, and both can push content to a website. The differences are in scale, in who the product assumes is sitting in front of it, and in what counts as "the work". This page sets out what each company publishes, where each is stronger, and how to decide.

What does AthenaHQ do?

AthenaHQ is an AI search visibility platform that tracks how AI models describe a brand and gives marketing teams tools to act on it. Its home page is titled "Agents to Win on AI Search" and addresses roles such as PR, content marketing, brand marketing and the AEO or GEO manager, with tracking across 11 or more models, citation source analysis, content gap detection, sentiment monitoring and executive reporting.

On the action side, the pricing page lists on-page and off-page actions, a content optimization agent, brand voice enforcement and management of AI crawler access through robots.txt and llms.txt. The integrations page lists 17 integrations, including publishing to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Framer and several headless CMSs, plus Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Looker Studio, Slack reports, an API and MCP connections for ChatGPT and Claude. That is a serious toolset, and it is built for a team that runs AI search as a channel.

What does Alphaa do?

Alphaa is an AI agent that asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity a real customer question about your business every week, records who they recommend, checks 23 things those engines read on your website, and drafts the fixes. You approve each public change, and Alphaa publishes it through its WordPress plugin, its Shopify and Webflow apps, or by emailing the exact change to your web person. Every change has an undo.

The fixes are the ones that tend to decide whether a local business gets named: service pages that answer the questions customers ask, FAQ content, structured business facts, an llms.txt file, replies to Google reviews, Google Business Profile posts, and consistent name, address and phone details across directories. There is no dashboard of 11 models and no BI export. The design assumption is an owner who will spend a minute a week approving work, not a specialist who will spend a day in the tool. The mechanism is explained in how to get recommended by ChatGPT.

How much do Alphaa and AthenaHQ cost?

AthenaHQ has a free plan and a $295-a-month Starter plan, and Alphaa starts at $99 a month with no free plan. AthenaHQ prices by credits, where one credit is one AI response; Alphaa prices by business. Here is what each publishes, as of 7 October 2026.

PlanPublished priceWhat it includes
AthenaHQ Free$0 (listed as $25 free credit)300 credits; ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot; content recommendations
AthenaHQ Starter$295/mo; annual billing listed at 17% off3,600 credits a month, 11 models, integrations, content optimization agent; API and extra credits are paid add-ons
AthenaHQ EnterpriseCustomCustom credits, SSO, BI dashboards, white-glove setup, a certified GEO/SEO specialist
Alphaa Starter$99/mo, month to month1 business, 10 customer questions checked weekly on 4 engines, 23-point site check, drafted fixes you approve
Alphaa Pro$199/mo, month to month20 questions, up to 3 locations, competitor comparison, auto-publish for blog posts
Alphaa Full Service$299/mo, month to monthEverything in Pro, plus a person on Alphaa's team does the setup and publishing

The free plan is a real point in AthenaHQ's favour: you can look at your AI visibility for nothing before you commit. Alphaa has no free trial; instead the free 60-second check shows what the four assistants say about your business today. At the paid level the gap is $196 a month between the two entry plans, and it buys a lot of measurement volume. Whether that volume is worth paying for depends on whether anyone will read it.

Which AI engines does each one track?

AthenaHQ tracks more engines, and Alphaa tracks the four assistants most customers ask directly. AthenaHQ's Starter plan lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral, with more on request. Alphaa asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, and does not track Google's AI surfaces or Copilot.

If Google's AI results matter most to you, note what Google says in its own guidance, AI Features and Your Website: there are no additional requirements and no special optimizations needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond normal SEO best practice. Tracking Google is useful; it does not unlock a different set of fixes. For how the engines differ on local questions, see ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Perplexity.

Who does the work in each product?

In AthenaHQ a marketer drives the work with help from its agents; in Alphaa the agent drives the work and the owner approves it. Both can publish. The difference is how much judgement the product expects from the person using it.

  1. Choosing what to track. AthenaHQ: you set topics, prompts, competitors, personas and regions, and spend credits against them. Alphaa: you confirm the customer questions it proposes for your business and location.
  2. Reading the results. AthenaHQ: share of voice, citation sources, sentiment and content gaps across 11 models, with dashboards for different roles. Alphaa: a plain weekly note saying who each assistant named and why it skipped you.
  3. Deciding the fix. AthenaHQ: recommendations and a content optimization agent, steered by your brand guidelines. Alphaa: the agent picks the next fix from its 23-point check and the week's answers.
  4. Publishing. Both push to WordPress, Shopify and Webflow. AthenaHQ adds Wix, Framer and headless CMSs. Alphaa adds an email of the exact change for any other platform, and on Full Service a person does it.
  5. Local signals off the website. Alphaa drafts Google review replies and Business Profile posts and checks directory consistency. AthenaHQ lists off-page actions and citation intelligence aimed at the sources AI models cite.

Neither product can edit an AI model, and neither can promise a recommendation. Both improve the public signals the engines read and wait for them to be read again. The honest timeline is in how long AEO takes.

When is AthenaHQ the better choice?

AthenaHQ is the better choice when AI search is a channel someone at your company owns. Specifically:

  • You have a marketing team or a GEO specialist. The depth of the dashboards rewards a person who reads them every week.
  • You need many engines. Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI, Mistral, Copilot and Google AI Mode are tracked on Starter; Alphaa covers none of them.
  • You want to look before paying. The free plan lets you see results without a card.
  • You run a national brand, several brands or several regions. Multi-language, multi-region and persona targeting are listed features.
  • You publish to a headless CMS or report in a BI tool. Contentful, Sanity, Payload, Looker Studio and an API are on the integrations list.

When is Alphaa the better choice?

Alphaa is the better choice when you own a local or small business, nobody on staff does marketing, and the goal is to be the business an assistant names. Specifically:

  • Nobody will run a platform. A drafted fix that needs one tap is more likely to ship than a recommendation that needs a marketer.
  • Budget is under $295 a month. Alphaa Starter is $99 and Full Service, with a human doing the publishing, is $299.
  • Your customers are local. Review replies, Business Profile posts and directory consistency are part of the job, not extras.
  • Claude matters and you are on a small budget. Claude is in every Alphaa plan; on AthenaHQ it is listed from Starter.
  • You want month to month with no annual discount pressure. Alphaa is priced the same monthly, with no contract.

If you are comparing several tools at once, our honest comparison of AEO tools and Profound vs Peec AI vs Alphaa cover the other main options, and the integrations page shows exactly where Alphaa can publish.

Can you use AthenaHQ and Alphaa together?

You can, though few businesses need both. A marketing agency might use AthenaHQ to track a portfolio across 11 models and use Alphaa on a single local client that needs reviews, listings and pages handled weekly. For one small business, pick one: AthenaHQ if a marketer will run it, Alphaa if the owner will only approve. Either way, start by seeing where you stand with the free AI visibility check.

What else do people ask about Alphaa vs AthenaHQ?

Is AthenaHQ more expensive than Alphaa?

Yes on paid plans: AthenaHQ Starter is $295 a month and Alphaa Starter is $99, as of October 2026. AthenaHQ also has a free plan with 300 credits, which Alphaa does not offer.

Does AthenaHQ publish content to my website?

Yes. Its integrations page lists publishing to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Framer, Contentful, Sanity and Payload CMS. You still decide what to publish and steer the content agent.

Does Alphaa track Google AI Overviews?

No. Alphaa asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. AthenaHQ tracks AI Overviews on every plan and AI Mode from Starter, and Google Search Console reports AI feature impressions for free.

What is an AthenaHQ credit?

One credit is one AI response, according to AthenaHQ's pricing page. Starter includes 3,600 credits a month, and extra credits and API access are paid add-ons on top of the subscription.

Is Alphaa an AthenaHQ alternative for a small business?

For a local business without a marketer, yes, because it does the work rather than giving you a platform to run. For a brand team tracking 11 models across regions, it is not a like-for-like alternative.

Will either tool guarantee AI recommendations?

No, and you should be wary of any tool that does. AI answers are generated fresh each time from public signals, so both products work on those signals and measure whether the answers change.
