Alphaa vs Surfer: Which AI Visibility Tool Fits? (2026)
Surfer suits a content team that wants an SEO writing editor and AI visibility tracking in one platform, while Alphaa suits an owner who wants four assistants checked weekly and approved fixes published for them.

By the Alphaa team. We build an AI agent that checks what ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity say about businesses, so read this as one side's view. Every Surfer figure below was read from Surfer's own pricing and home pages on 27 October 2026, and prices change.
Short answer: In Alphaa vs Surfer, Surfer is the content team's platform: an SEO writing editor, page audits and AI visibility tracking across up to five AI engines, from $49 a month billed yearly. Alphaa is an AI agent for one business that checks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity weekly and publishes the fixes the owner approves, from $99 a month.
Both products respond to the same shift: buyers now ask AI assistants which company to choose, and a business the assistant does not name rarely gets the visit. They differ in who does the work. Surfer gives a writer or SEO specialist better tools. Alphaa assumes there is no writer and does the work itself, with the owner approving each change. This page sets out what each one publishes about itself and how to pick.
What is Surfer?
Surfer is a content optimization and AI search visibility platform used by marketers, agencies and SEO specialists to write pages that rank and to track how often AI assistants mention a brand. Its home page leads with "Be The Answer in Google – Everywhere Buyers Search" and says more than 150,000 marketers, agencies and SEOs use it. The site's page titles now read "Positive Surfer", and the product itself is still called Surfer.
Surfer is best known for its Content Editor, which scores a draft against the pages that already rank and suggests terms, headings and length. Around that editor it has added an AI writing assistant, a humanizer, a plagiarism checker, internal-linking and cannibalization reports, and integrations with WordPress and Google Docs. The newer part is AI visibility: an AI Tracker that runs prompts in AI assistants, records whether your brand is mentioned, and reports mention gaps and brand sentiment.
What does Alphaa do?
Alphaa is an AI agent that asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity real customer questions about your business every week, records who they recommend, checks 23 things those engines read on your site, and drafts the fixes. You approve each public change, and Alphaa publishes it through its WordPress plugin, its Shopify and Webflow apps, or by emailing the exact change to your web person. Every change has an undo.
The fixes are the ones that usually decide whether a smaller business gets named: service pages that answer the questions customers ask, FAQ content, structured business facts, an llms.txt file, AI-crawler rules, replies to Google reviews, Business Profile posts and consistent listings. There is no editor to learn and no prompt library to build. The design assumption is an owner who spends a minute a week approving work. The reasoning behind those fixes is in how to get recommended by ChatGPT, and the supported platforms are listed on the integrations page.
How much do Alphaa and Surfer cost?
Surfer's plans cost $49 to $299 a month billed yearly, and Alphaa costs $99, $199 or $299 a month, month to month. Surfer prices by documents, tracked prompts and features; Alphaa prices by business and location. Here is what each publishes, as of 27 October 2026.
| Plan | Published price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Surfer Discovery | $49/mo billed yearly | 120 documents, track 10 pages, AI writing assistant; no AI prompt tracking |
| Surfer AI Search Analytics | $82/mo billed yearly | 50 prompts refreshed daily across five engines, mention gap, brand sentiment, 5 brand spaces |
| Surfer Standard | $99/mo billed yearly | 360 documents, 25 prompts refreshed weekly in ChatGPT, WordPress and Google Docs integrations |
| Surfer Pro | $182/mo billed yearly | 360 documents, 50 prompts daily across five engines, internal linking, cannibalization report |

Surfer's pricing page says annual plans are charged for the whole year upfront, at a discount of up to 17% against monthly payment, so paying month to month costs more than the figures above. Each plan has a "Start for Free" button, though the page does not state trial terms. Alphaa has no free trial; the free 60-second AI check shows what the four assistants say before you pay. For the wider market, see how much AEO costs.
Which AI assistants does each tool check?
Surfer's AI Search Analytics, Pro and Peace of Mind plans track ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews, its Standard plan tracks ChatGPT only, and Alphaa checks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity on every plan. Claude appears in a logo banner on Surfer's pricing page but not as a tracked engine in its plan table, so confirm coverage with Surfer if Claude matters to you.
The split is real in both directions. Surfer tracks Google's two AI surfaces, AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Alphaa does not scan those directly. Google says its AI features draw on pages that are indexed and eligible to show a snippet, with no special markup required, according to its AI features documentation, so the same site fixes apply to them. Alphaa covers Claude, which buyers increasingly use for research and which can name a different business from ChatGPT for the same question. How the assistants differ for local queries is covered in ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Perplexity for local search.
How do Alphaa and Surfer compare feature by feature?
Surfer gives a writer more control over each page and more measurement; Alphaa does less per page but finishes the work for one business. The table summarises what each publishes about itself.

When is Surfer the better choice?
Surfer is the better choice when you have someone who writes and edits content every week and wants data to guide each page. Concretely, pick Surfer if:
- You publish many articles a month and want a live score and term suggestions inside the editor.
- You run an agency or several brands and need brand spaces, templates and custom voices.
- You want Google AI Overviews and AI Mode tracked alongside ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini.
- You want daily refreshes across 50 or 100 prompts, with sentiment and mention-gap reports.
- You need API access or an MCP connection to plug the data into other tools.
When is Alphaa the better choice?
Alphaa is the better choice when the business has no writer or marketer and the owner wants the fixes made, not a tool to operate. Pick Alphaa if:
- You are one business, or a handful of locations, and want Claude checked alongside ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
- You want changes published to WordPress, Shopify or Webflow after you approve them, each with an undo.
- Google reviews, your Business Profile and directory listings matter to how customers choose you.
- You prefer month-to-month billing to paying a year upfront.
- You want a plain-English note each week on what changed and why.
Neither tool can edit an AI model. Both work by improving the public pages and signals that assistants read. OpenAI, for example, says sites that block its OAI-SearchBot crawler will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, apart from navigational links, according to its crawler documentation. No vendor can promise a recommendation or a timeline. For more options, see the best AEO tools in 2026, Alphaa vs Writesonic and our comparison pages.
How should you decide between them?
Decide on who will do the work each week: if a writer will, Surfer makes that person faster and better informed; if nobody will, an agent that drafts and publishes is the safer bet. Three steps make the choice concrete.
- Find out what the assistants say today. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity the questions your customers ask, or run the free AI check.
- Count the hours you have. An editor, a prompt tracker and audit reports reward a person who works them. If that person does not exist, the reports go unread.
- Match the engines to your customers. If your buyers use Claude, or if Google AI Overviews drive your leads, make sure the plan you can afford covers that engine.
What else do people ask about Alphaa and Surfer?
Is Surfer cheaper than Alphaa?
Surfer's cheapest plan with AI tracking, AI Search Analytics, is $82 a month billed yearly, which is less than Alphaa's $99. That plan does not include Surfer's content documents, and Alphaa bills month to month and includes the drafting and publishing.
Does Surfer track Claude?
Not according to its pricing table as of October 2026, which lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. Claude appears in a logo banner on the same page, so ask Surfer directly if you need Claude tracked.
Does Surfer write the content for me?
Surfer includes an AI writing assistant and a Content Editor that guide and speed up writing, but a person still runs the editor and decides what to publish. Alphaa drafts the pages, posts and FAQs itself and asks the owner to approve them before publishing.
Can I use Surfer and Alphaa together?
Yes, nothing stops a team from running both, though most small businesses will not need to. A content team might write long-form articles in Surfer while Alphaa handles reviews, listings, structured data and the weekly four-assistant check.
Does either tool guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend me?
No, and any vendor that promises it is overselling. Both tools improve the public signals that AI assistants read, but the assistants decide what to say, and their answers vary from one run to the next.
